AACS IN MARYLAND

The Maryland Association of Christian Schools exists as the Maryland branch of the American Association of Christian Schools. This national organization, begun in 1972 set forth to answer question: “Where is the separatist organization, on a national level, that will champion our cause?” Throughout its span of influence, AACS has provided its membership leadership, legislative protection, and high-quality educational programs.

HISTORY OF MACS

In December, 1971, representatives from Elkton Christian School, Harford Christian School, Capital Christian Academy, and Clinton Christian School met and the Maryland Association of Christian Schools was born.

Dr. Carl Bieber, administrator of Elkton, was elected President, Dr. John Macon, pastor of Clinton Christian School became the next President, and served until Rev. Earle Lee was elected in 1976, the same year Rev. Mickey Creed became the first Executive Director of MACS.

In 1978 Rev. Lee moved to Kentucky and Rev. Fred Snowden became President. When Rev. Creed accepted God's call to Virginia to pastor a church in 1980 Rev. Snowden became the Executive Director, and Dr. Don McKnight became President.  Rev. Snowden resigned in 1982, and in 1983 Rev. Roger L. Salomon took over as Executive Director.  Dr. McKnight served as President until the Lord called him home in 1991.

Between 1991 and 1997 William Spence and Dr. Richard Grammer served as President. In 1998 Dr. Norris Belcher became President and faithfully served for 15 years in that capacity. He resigned in 2013.  Dr. John McKnight, pastor of Reformation Bible Church in Darlington, MD served as MACS president until 2015 when Dr. Kent Ramler of People's Baptist in Frederick was elected.

On May 10, 2018, Dr. Brad Parker of Frederick Christian Academy stepped down from his position as Executive Director, a role which he had held informally and formally for two and a half years, to pursue God's calling in NC at a church and school. In the general meeting on the same day, MACS formally honored by commendation on the record both he and Pastor Bill Townsend from Granite Baptist School who had served for over a decade on the MACS Executive Board as Secretary but who also was stepping down to focus on another ministry. Mr. Bryan Wilson was unanimously elected to become the next Executive Director, a role he willingly accepted and for which he laid out a plan for success building upon that previously set in place by Dr. Parker.

Fine arts

As our students grow in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, their development in and out of the classroom is paramount. Much like athletics, the fine arts offer MACS students opportunities to expand their talents to serve their creator through the precise practices demanded by the various disciplines.

Meet Ruth peters : MACS Fine Arts Director

Ruth Peters stepped into the role of MACS Fine Arts Director in the summer of 2017 following the tremendous amount of time and energy provided by Alyssa Parrish until that point. Ruth's experience in both KCEA and ODACS fine arts competitions as well as Christian education throughout her career will be invaluable as we push forward as an organization.

National Fine Arts Competition at Bob JOnes University, GReenville, SC

The AACS National Competition has been organized to provide a challenge toward excellence among the students of fundamental Christian schools across America. This competition will allow Christian young people to develop disciplined skills in various areas of proficiency so that they might better serve the Lord throughout their lives. Certainly a worthy goal of Christian education is to follow the example of our Saviour who “increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52).

Only Senior High students (grades 9–12) who have won or placed in an AACS certified state or regional competition may participate in the National Competition...Students will be allowed to compete only if their school is currently a member of a state association or is an associate-member school which is in good standing with the AACS...Competition is divided into five areas (Bible, Music, Speech, Art, and Academics).
